Official-source test guide

Which Life in the UK Test handbook edition is current?

The official publisher currently lists the Guide for New Residents as the third edition. Look for the official handbook and check the publisher’s latest amendments, rather than choosing solely by a year in a shop listing.

How do you recognise the official book?

Start with the publisher’s handbook page, reached through the official shop linked by GOV.UK. The paperback listing gives ISBN 9780113413409 and labels the book 3rd edition. Compare those details with a seller’s description before buying.

The title you want is the official Guide for New Residents. A practice-question book, a summary guide and the handbook serve different purposes. The publisher specifically says the handbook supplies the knowledge and does not contain mock questions.

Is a new year the same as a new edition?

A year on a seller’s cover or listing is not enough to identify an official edition. Use the publisher’s actual edition label. A guide marketed for this year may be a separate publisher’s preparation product.

“Edition” and “impression” also describe different changes. An impression is a printing within an edition. The official publisher links a list of impression amendments, which shows that corrections can occur while the edition stays the same.

That makes the amendment list useful when checking an older copy. It also means a current edition label is not a promise that every printing contains identical wording.

Can you keep an older third-edition copy?

Check the printing information inside your copy against the publisher’s amendments. Read each relevant correction in context. If the printing cannot be identified or there are many changes to work through, compare it with the version currently offered by the official publisher.

For practical matters such as ID and booking, use live GOV.UK guidance. The identity guide and booking guide link those instructions directly. A book’s original printing date does not establish today’s operational rules.

Do you need a paper book?

GOV.UK lists book, eBook and audio formats. Choose the official format you can use consistently. If you prefer audio, pause and recall what you heard before moving on; listening familiarity alone can feel stronger than actual recall.

After reading a section, use our chapter notes to organise it and a mock to check what you remember. The study timetable connects reading with revision.

Our practice questions are independently written. They help you work with the handbook; the handbook remains the official learning source.

Common questions

Which edition of the Life in the UK Test book should I use?

The official publisher currently lists the third edition. Check the official product listing and the latest impression amendments before choosing a copy.

Does a 2026 cover mean it is a new official edition?

The year alone does not establish the edition. Compare the product with the edition and ISBN on the official publisher’s listing.

Does the official handbook contain mock tests?

The publisher says the handbook contains the required knowledge and does not contain mock questions. Use practice separately to check your recall.
